Las Vegas Bans the Sale of Dogs and Cats in Pet Stores! (Adopt instead!)
Big news for animal welfare. Las Vegas has officially banned the sale of dogs and cats in pet stores, a move designed to cut ties with commercial breeders and puppy mills, and shift the focus toward adoption instead.
Under the new rule, pet stores can no longer buy animals from large-scale breeders. Instead, they’ll partner with shelters and rescue groups to help homeless pets find real families.
It’s a step that many cities across the U.S. have taken, and one that’s proven to reduce overbreeding, decrease shelter overcrowding, and limit the abuse behind the puppy-mill pipeline.
Behind every pet-shop puppy, there’s often a mother dog living her entire life in a cage. This law takes power away from that system and puts the spotlight on compassion.
For countless animals waiting behind shelter doors, this isn’t just policy.
It’s hope.
